In 2007, Cyrela implemented the Aprendiz Program, offering young students the opportunity to have their first job. Through a partnership with the Instituto Profissionalizante Paulista (IPP Institute), people with ages from 16 to 24 can exert administrative activities in the office or at the construction sites, attend classes once a week at the IPP facilities, in addition to completing a given number of hours in courses, lectures, cultural tours, and social activities. The students also count on a team of psychologists, educators and social workers who provide them support related to personal and professional matters.
The program, implemented in 2000, aims at eradicating illiteracy at construction sites, resulting in better life and citizenship conditions for workers.
Classes are taught at the construction sites’ cafeterias after working hours, and are coordinated by specialized teachers. By the end of the program, workers take a test at a public school before they receive the Elementary Education Certificate, recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture.
In addition to the social gain of this initiative, which reflects in better life and citizenship conditions, Cyrela has also seen other results, such as enhanced performance and productivity at the construction sites.
Implemented in 2008, in a partnership with the National Service for Industrial Apprenticeship (SENAI), this program’s object is to train electricians and plumbers through professional training classes. This program is targeted at youngsters (ages 18 and above) who have a family relationship with Cyrela’s employees.
Those who complete the program are qualified to practice the chosen profession, increasing their chance to enter the labor market; they are often hired by Cyrela itself.
Cyrela invests in waste management in all of its construction works, going beyond legal requirements. This program’s goal is to make all employees aware of the importance of preserving the environment, in addition to reducing waste generation and waste of materials. The processes are integrated to the quality management system.
Waste that cannot be avoided must be reused or recycled. By the end of the process, what really needs to be disposed of will be handled in an appropriate manner.
