Building People

Aware of the illiteracy problem, which is not yet eradicated in several regions and communities in Brazil, Cyrela has instituted the Building People Program in 2000, with the aim of helping in the conclusion of Basic Education by workers of construction sites. The group is formed by 20 employees that take eight weekly hours of courses after their construction shifts in the refectories of facilities where they work.

Classes are given by specialized teachers who use a method acknowledged by official education institutions. To get the diploma, the student studies from four or five months to conclude the Basic Education I (1st to 4th grade) and twelve months for Basic Education II (5th to 9th grade). Then the students undergo an exam in a public school certified by the Department of Education.

The program has already benefited 986 workers since its implantation (as of 2010), and is a transforming agent, resulting in improved quality of life and citizenship. While the Company is providing a social benefit, it is also preparing these employees to perform better, raising the professional quality in construction sites.
