CarbonoNeutro® Program

Cyrela created a program for compensation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission in September 2010: CarbonoNeutro®. Developed in a partnership with Gerar – Civil Society Organization of Public Interest (OSCIP), the program was initially created to compensate carbon emissions of real estate launching events in the city of São Paulo, which usually gather around 600 people.

The program was coordinated by MaxAmbiental and is aimed at the recovery of local riparian forests through planting of native trees in Permanent Preservation Areas (PPA) in the scope of a project creating work and income and developed in rural communities.

The aim of the program is fighting the climate changes by measuring, reducing, and compensating the emission of GHG. This program allows for the calculation of the approximate CO2 volume released in the environment from daily activities, and also of the number of trees to be planted in order to offset the impact.

The first initiative involved two major launches of the Company: Luzes da Mooca (in the neighborhood of Mooca), and Thera Berrini (in the neighborhood of Brooklin), both in São Paulo. To offset the emission of 4.4 tons of CO2 of these events, Cyrela planted 32 trees.
